Deeside Way - Comments

JNow that the local part of the Deeside Way is in use, CDDCC is keen to find out what you think of it. Below, you can see some recent opinion.  Please send your comments by clicking here and they will be passed on to those responsible.

“We are on visit to the area and set out from the old Murtle station on Monday 17-7-06 to see how far we could cycle towards Banchory. The lack of signage stopped progress beyond Dalmaik Crossroads so we ended the ride with an enjoyable visit to Drum Castle before cycling back to Duthie Park then returning to Murtle. Having looked at your Deeside Way information it is certainly not clear where the route goes from Dalmaik Crossroads. We intend to explore further but better signage is needed. Otherwise thanks for an excellent route with good surfaces, plenty of shade on a hot day and excellent views”.

Wonderful to have a safe and enjoyable commuting route from Banchory to Aberdeen at last.  The section parallel to the new railway is the roughest section and needs more levelling or a finer surface. Also the section between the end of the tarmac road at Coalford and Drumoak seems a little soft and badly cut up by horses hooves.

“Great to have it open. A super resource”.

“Goodish surface from Drumoak to Crathes”.

“Urgent need for signage at Crathes from the east access onto the North Deeside Road to the Milton Railway where the path again becomes clear”.

“Crossing the A957 is a hazard given the speed of the traffic which was witnessed again by myself yesterday with significant numbers of bikes being pushed across the road in front of accelerating vehicles”.

“The surface created on the new path by the DRPS was not really felt to be up to standard and locals noted that people are preferring to use the road rather than struggle with a difficult surface. Basically it needs levelling properly”.

“The old section from level with the Castle grounds west entrance to Bellfield needs proper draining. Even at this time of year there is sufficient mud to put off all but those dressed expecting to get a liberal splattering”.

“As another e-mail has commented signage is a big problem. On a recent trip (September 2006) I forgot to take the OS sheet with me and found myself lost up a dead end at East Park. While there seems plenty opportunity to improvise on routes it might be useful for people who are not too good at following their nose if the CDDCC could provide more strategic signs!!” (The responsibility for signage on that section is that of Aberdeenshire Council, not CDDCC).

“Are your map references correct for the Kennerty section? Quoted 836083, perhaps it should read 836003 or certain something near to this??” (He’s right, it’s 832001, and has been corrected on the website).
