2004 Aberdeenshire Local Plan indicated opportunities for development representing 250% increase in housing at the ‘centre’ of Crathes.

March 2005 A well-attended public meeting took place in  to discuss the whole subject (for details, click here)

May 2005 CDDCC sent comments (click here to view) to Aberdeenshire Council on behalf of local Crathes residents.

April 2005 to March 2006 Despite extent of democratic interest and many subsequent calls to Council officials and Councillors, the public were denied the opportunity to provide any input to the planning process. Instead, Aberdeenshire Council (Marr Area) asked the Dunecht Estate to produce a Development Brief for the site. This was written on their behalf by Rydens Property Consultants.

September 2006 The Marr Area Committee approved the draft on 5 September 2006.

January 2007 Neighbour notifications sent out and outline planning applications lodged (click for proposed site layout)

February 2007 50 people attended a (second) public meeting

May 2007 The Planning application APP/2007/0091 appeared not to be acceptable to the Council’s Planning officers, since it did not (as CDDCC pointed out|) comply with the Development Brief

July 2007 Site offered for sale by Dunecht Estates.

September 2007 Purchaser of site still unknown

2010 Draft Local Development Plan being finalised, which will specify housing to be built over the coming 10 to 30 years.
